Tanya is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist (guitar, sitar, uke, drums, harmonium and violin) and composer who draws on her formative influences of rock, soul, Hindustani classical, hip-hop, Bengali folk, and metal in her own music. She has written songs for herself, her band Awaaz Do, and for ensembles of musicians. Her songs have been featured in several independent films and major theater company productions in New York and Boston. Tanya was a fellow with the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico, the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity in Alberta, Canada, and the City of Tempe Arts and Culture Division, where she teaches rock and roll basics to Arizona toddlers and their parents.
